Nature Study by Suzanne McIntire is a photo zine whose images depict an eccentric urban landscape where exotic animals mix with city folk in their natural setting.

With her signature playful sense of humor, these color photos capture rhino, elephant, hippo, penguin, tiger, mother giraffe with baby, and more — all in unexpected ways, juxtaposing the natural with the artificial.

Suzanne McIntire is a former natural history museum staffer with a special interest in paleontology and the preparation of fossils direct from the field. Her interest in fine art photography began on a fossil dig in Nebraska, when a late-season snowstorm made going out in the badlands impossible. She ventured out with a camera, and discovered a love for things visually incongruous, for things not looking the way they’re supposed to, and for visual humor.

Her work has been exhibited at Glen Echo Photoworks, Maryland Federation of Art, Art League of Alexandria, Montgomery College, Alexandria Atheneum (Northern Virginia Fine Arts), MidAtlantic PhotoVisions, Falls Church Arts, and in the Washington Post. She is the author and photographer of the book An American Cutting Garden.
