Diverse Voices / Global Perspectives: Enriching Your Work
The world of photography is immense, and most of us know only a part of it. This class invites you to become inspired as we discover together the diverse voices of photographers from across the globe whose work is often overlooked by the mainstream. With an aim toward bringing something fresh to your own work, we’ll explore image-makers from Latin America, Africa, and Asia, looking at how their photographs reflect a broad spectrum of perspectives, stories, and visual approaches.
Each class session combines discussion, image analysis, and creative experimentation. Through weekly assignments, students will translate the ideas they encounter in class into their own lens-based work, using new approaches, techniques, and points of view to expand their artistic range. By the end of the course, participants will have gained fresh insight into global photography and new ways of seeing within their own creative practice. Some of the artists we’ll look at include Zanele Muholi, Musuk Nolte, Flor Garduño, Fan Ho, and others.
